The Power of Bold Lips

You may have heard of the the Audrey Hepburn quote, "On a bad day, there's always lipstick.". There is an unidentifiable power in flaunting bold lips. Even if it is just a tint of color, swiping that lipstick across your lips unveils some sense of feeling like one is "put together". Lately, bold lips have outnumbered bold eye looks on a daily basis. More and more people are obsessed with the newest lip stains, liquid lipsticks, and the bold "matte" look. In all honesty, how can we blame them? It is significantly easier to swipe lipstick across your lips and go about your day than it is to perfect that winged eyeliner or smokey eye look you saw on Pinterest.

Well Audrey Hepburn was absolutely right. With the easy swipe of lipstick, there is an automatic feeling of confidence, thus power. Now, your definition of power can be interpreted differently from someone else's, but to me, this power comes from that immediate since of confidence. Not only is it a physical way of drawing attention to your presence, it is a way to draw attention to your words. No matter the day you're having, the look you are going for, or the words you are trying to communicate, some sort of spark, visually and verbally is evoked from the person wearing it. Remember when Topanga from Boy Meets World tried to prove a point with lipstick?

According to womensmarketing.com, lipstick is the most frequently discussed color cosmetic on social media. The way in which this product is marketed is often times subtle through ads, social media, and in-store promotions; however, the lasting effect that it entails on one's confidence is clearly evident. For example, Rimmel's "Revolutionize" commercial or Covergirl's "Lip Perfection" gives off a lasting feeling bigger than just the physcial appearance of beautiful lips, but rather, it is about empowerment and enhancement of the person wearing it.

What do you think? Would you still pick up that liquid liner in your makeup bag, or would you opt for a new shade of lipstick to help yourself stand out?
