An Ulta Christmas

"21 Days of Beauty"

Every year around September, Ulta throws its biggest beauty event of the year titled, "21 Days of Beauty". The event features three different, deluxe beauty products everyday for 21 days at 50% off of the typical retail price...YES, 50% OFF!! What a way to get people to visit the store every day, am I right?

Speaking from personal experience, this sale has me in Ulta several days a week- depending on the products I want, of course. By offering brands and products that people may have been hesitant to try out before due to price, Ulta has created a successful promotion by offering various brands and products each day. Traffic to the store increases with different people looking for all of the different brands and products they are interested in trying. It lowers the cost of trying out a product people aren't sure about, and it brings more awareness to the brands that Ulta carries.

Your trip to Ulta is bound to be one of those "I came in for one thing and bought the whole store!"...
Ulta's well-know competitor, Sephora, sells several of the same brands, but both companies have their exclusives. Ulta is know to carry both deluxe brands and drugstore brands, which can give people more of a reason to shop there while they're already picking up other beauty exclusives and promotional products. Aside from that, both offer points/rewards systems; however, Ulta offers more coupons and exclusive deals than its competitor.

"21 Days of Beauty" offers once a year prices for popular products from deluxe brands, sending daily promotions through your inbox, social media, and catalogues. You'd have to live under a rock to be a beauty and makeup enthusiast and not know about offers that are often times better than Christmas deals!

  1. Thank you sooo much for writing about this- I almost forgot! I'm always so excited about 21 Days of Beauty. Even if I don't need any new products (I usually don't) I'll still indulge because half off is such an amazing deal. It's a great way to pull people into the store buying products they don't need just because its such a good sale, and once they're in the store customers will buy other products even if they aren't a part of the sale because they're already there.

  2. I surprisingly didn't know about this sale, but it does seem like a great deal! I have always complained about how expensive makeup and cosmetics can be, and this is a great opportunity to avoid some of those costs. I agree with the comment above that often times even if you don't need something at the moment, we tend to make purchases according to sales just because we know it's cheaper. I find myself more likely to purchase something that's on sale, even if it is still more expensive than I would usually pay for that item. Comparing original costs to sale prices has a huge impact on the buyer.

  3. I didn't know about this sale either, but it might also be because their constant promotional emails have found a home in my spam folder. I am an Ulta shopper myself when makeup starts to run low and I will admit that after reading the first paragraph, I opened another tab and went to Ulta's website to check it out. I think it's a great way to promotion beauty products and get people in store. Sale or no sale, it's always difficult to walk into Ulta and not buy more than what you initially came for.

  4. I have never known about this sale until this past month! I feel like I have been seeing so much about it recently with all of social media blowing up. I am a pretty loyal Sephora shopper, but lately I have seen so many commercials and ads on my Instagram feed that I feel like I must go in and shop this sale. I definitely think they have done a GREAT job of marketing this deal, as it's getting people who don't normally shop here to come in for this promotional sale!

  5. I completely forgot about this sale so thank you for writing about it!! It's awesome because its popular products from nice brands that you actually want, like last year they featured my favorite mascara and I stocked up because its normally never on sale. For me, it's always a toss up between Ulta and Sephora because they both have certain things or brands they offer, but I feel like Ulta does a much better job of bringing customers in and rewarding them for shopping there.

  6. I almost forgot about the sale! I agree this is a great way to increase traffic to the stores and profits as well. Since they have both drug store and high end, they can cater to two markets, and even get the drug store makeup market to come to the dark side. I think Ulta does a better job at offering deals, like the 21 Days of Beauty, that has customers returning more than Sephora. Personally I almost always prefer Ulta over Sephora anyday. The rewards are even better when shopping during a sale and their 4x points days definitely is a great marketing strategy.

  7. Literally wrote my blog about this too! I work there, and I can honestly say it is awesome in every way shape and form, especially seeing the process from the inside and out. It is such a good way to bring people in and get them to actually believe the hype about pricy products by purchasing them at basically half the price, and they either love it or they don't, but that increases awareness and expands the customer base for all the vendors that sell their products at Ulta. It brings more people in to Ulta (makes them more money), and creates new customers for the vendors (success!). A win win for everyone.
